Don't bet on it!

This storm has taken a 10-15 mile shift and now (as I said this morning), the predictions are majorly out the window.

This may end up being just a rain (primarily) mixed with sleet and freezing rain, ending with snow! Sort of just slush!

Remember this is just a possibility, but becoming more likely than everything else!

This is why winter storms are so hard to predict!!!
The following images show the storm progression from tonight at 7pm until 7pm Friday, as in precipitation types.

Here is the key to the numbers and letters on this:
S-: Light snow
S+: moderate to heavy snow
S: moderate snow
ZR: Freezing Rain
IP: Icy Precipitation
RH: Heavy Rain
R-: Light Rain
R: Moderate Rain
R+: Moderate to heavy rain
SH: Heavy Snow
Not sure what ZL and T stand for! :)

7pm, 10pm, 1am, 4am, 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm (respectively from tonight until Friday night)

In the end, it appears this mornings forecast holds mostly true! We may have to bring the ice accumulations down a bit! Over the winter storm warning 1/4 to 3/4 inch with 2 inches of snow, and 1/4 inch in the southern advisory, but 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice in southern Indiana advisory areas! This is why!

There's not as much precip as before but that area in Missouri may fill in because it's a direct route to the Gulf of Mexico. Notice the heavy snow over southern Illinois heading right for us! Stay tuned to the blog...

WInter Storm Alert

A lot of things to get to today. Warnings, advisories, and how much snow are we going to get anyway?

Here is the last time i will show the HPC chance of 4 inches of snow map! From now on, I'm taking it local!

Here are the warnings and advisories for the area!

The winter storm warning for Crawford, Dubois, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Orange, Scott, and Washington counties in southern Indiana is in effect from 7pm Thursday until 1pm Friday!

This includes Jasper, Bedford, Paoli, Salem, Pekin, English, Hanover and North Vernon!

What to expect for the winter storm warning:

- In Lawrence, Jackson, and Jennings counties, expect 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch of ice with a topping of 2-4 inches of snow.

- For the rest of the Winter Storm Warning area, expect 1/2 to 1 inch of ice accumulation, with a possible of up to 1 1/2 inch ice accumulation, topped off with 1-3 inches of snow.

Winter Weather Advisory for Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Perry counties, in Southern Indiana, from 7pm Thursday until 1 pm Friday.

What to expect in the southern Indiana winter weather advisory:

- 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch of ice accumulation, with possibly a 1 inch ice accumulation in the northern parts of these counties, topped off by 1-2 inches of snow, possibly 3 inches in the northern parts of these counties.

Winter Weather Advisory for Breckenridge, Jefferson, Meade, Oldham, and Trimble counties from 7pm Thursday until 1pm Friday.

What to expect:

1/4-1/2 inch of ice, with 1 inch of snow topping it off!

If the track moves just 10 miles, all that I just said will be knocked off track, so definitely stay tuned!

Mixing it up!

Before I go any further, there is at least a 10% chance for 4 inches of snow over southern Indiana. THe precipitation will be mixed, but how much and what type is still a question.

Start time for this storm will be about 3pm Thursday through noon Friday. Keep an eye out for this as well.

Here are the 8 and 12 inch snow probabilities as well (respectively).

The 8 inch line is still stalking us just to the north! Keep an eye out for this! I will have my opinion/prediction tomorrow by 7am!

Meanwhile, here have been some confirmation of tornadoes in our area. Here are some pics of the damage!

East Louisville, KY (building collapse)

5 miles south of Salem, Indiana (farm damage)

3 miles SSW of Salem, Indiana (a "felled" tree)

Here is the link to the tornado report to the Saint Matthews tornado:

How about the chance of 12 inches!

Not here, but maybe to our northwest!

This could be excited!

Hey, guys, there is a tornado watch in effect for just west of us in Illinois, and heading our way! We are under a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms this evening!

There is a great chance for winds over 60 mph (45 % chance)

There is even a chance of tornadoes (5%).

Even though that seems low, it's actually high for the month of January!
In rotating storms, hail is also possible!
Keep checking by blog or WLKY (or any other station) for more details!
I will be updating this all night!

A Little Snow

1-2 inches of snow fell on Tuesday morning. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal, but obviously it was. Most schools were closed! Don't know why!

The Storm Moves East

the storm that moved through atlanta, dumping 1-2 inches has moved east! This
is wreaking havoc for voters at the SC primary today!
The storm continues to ride towards the east coast!
Now here are the current temperatures! Those are not wind chills!
Now here are the wind chills!
We are clearly headed towards the coldest night we've had in a long time! Temperatures near zero to 5 in Louisville, coupled with winds, will bring wind chills of 0 to -12!
A quick warning: Churches around the area are considering cancelling Sunday services! Keep an eye on that!

What do snow, my brother, January 17th, Bearno's, Hard Rock Cafe, Lucky Strike, and a birthday have in common?

To answer that question, my day yesterday!
The pictures above show what we did and what we went, but are not actual pictures from yesterday. That is why their not as big.
In the weather department, flurries tonight, breezy through sunday, with temps not getting above 25 this weekend. Sunday morning it will be 5 with a windchill of -10. Near Bedford wind chills could be as cold as -20. For that reason a wind chill advisory is in effect.
Still looks like my prediction of the "big snow" is holding UP, but we'll have to see what happens. It may actually warm up for the last week of January into the 50s. Bad for my prediction! That's still a long way out there!

Snow Ball or Snow Bawl?

Hey the snow is actually rolling in here tonight it looks like. Well, at least it looks pretty!
Not much in the way of accumulation as you can see, but maybe an inch! Maybe enough to delay schools by 1 or maybe 2 hours! We'll see how it goes! Precip is not reaching the ground right now!

The Snow Falls When?

Well, a lot of people seem to be focusing on this week's storm. It's a shame, but they shouldn't be! I initially thought that this could be 2 inches, but these storms
are perfectly splitting us and we're in the middle!

Now, these pictures seem to depict rain! Now some of it will be rain, some snow, some ice!

The big deal is that nothing will come of this system! Less than one inch that melts quickly Thursday!
Now, Thursday night-Friday night we may have a dusting to 1/2 inch!

However, these Canadian temperatures are heading towards the area in the wak of an obvious Canadian cold front (as shown on this front)!

However, this cold front, a very strong one at that, will push through. We will have a low of 13 on Saturday morning, with the high of only 18. Saturday morning winds will be up to 35 mph, with wind chills of 10 to 15, below zero! That's -10 to -15 degrees feel like temperature!

Stay tuned on that! We may have a variation of advisories, as well as a snow possibility on Monday!

Snow

There are snow chances in our near future!

Thursday, Friday, and Monday are our big chances!

Well, Thursday, we have a chance of big snow! Two storms may come together and give us 2-8 inches. Something definitely to keep an eye on.

Friday, we may have another inch.

Monday, 1-3 inches are possible.

Something to keep an eye on. Definitely more tomorrow night!

The Day That Was Yesterday

Yesterday was quite a day in severe weather for January, here are the final storm reports!

21 tornado reports are pretty amazing! 74 wind reports and 46 hail reports. There was also 1 destructive wind report and 3 destructive hail reports!

There is an amazing damage video that i found on this link:
http://www.accuweather.com/news-blogs.asp?partner=adcalerts&blog=community

Complimants of:

And if you want to lighten up your day, check out this link:
This is a video on YouTube of Hannah Montana using a double around the 2:30 mark on the video. Watch closely, it's great to make fun of a "legend".

Back to the weather department, I'm still holding on the the thought that we will have a snow in late January or the first week of February!

Accuweather affirmates my thoughts as of now!
They have chances of snow on the 17th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, 24th, and 25th. Watch out!

Also, we may have snow on sunday! Maybe an inch at most is possible!
I'll keep a track on it!
