10:55pm

I'm calling it a night!

Nothing is severe right now! lots of lightning and gusty winds but not much severe at this time! Turning into somewhat of a flood threat...

9:30 pm

Everyone is in a slight risk now.

Tornado risk = 5%
Damaging wind risk = 15%
Large Hail Risk = 5%

Looks like the SPC thinks that our chances for severe are very small now, but there is a tornado warning out now for north Tennessee, and several severe thunderstorm warnings. I am considering staying up for this one...

8:10 pm Radar

6:45 pm

Here is a new watch in effect until midnight EDT. This includes Memphis, TN, Paducah, KY, and Evansville, IN.

5:25pm

Tornado outbreak to our west is a bust.

the storms that hit them this morning minimized the instability for them, and the storms simply have not fired!

A squall line is still forecast to develop and move through our area around and after midnight, bringing damaging winds!

more to come later...

4:15pm

Here are the new numbers from the SPC:

Slight Risk of Severe Storms:

Risk of Tornadoes: 5%

Risk of Hail = 5%

Risk of Damaging Winds: 30%

The moderate risk has not been issued according to Marc Weinberg's beliefs. However, a considerable amount of severe weather is still possible in our area. the greatest threat is still after midnight.

Biggest threat is damaging winds, with isolated hail and tornadoes.

more to come...

2:45 pm

Here's what Mark Weinberg has to say considering tonights storms:

"The shear tonight is directional enough that it will sustain an organized threat including supercells all night long. The winds about 5,000 feet are forecast at 69 knots (80 mph) by midnight. That is obscene to say the least. That will support a wide spread damaging wind threat since we will not cool much at all over night. The directional movement of the winds as well do support some spin ups although not near the concern as winds. I suspect an upgrade to moderate for us."

Strangely, the spc is not buying the moderate risk for us, yet. Next update from spc at 4pm.

2:30 pm

Not much has changed yet in the forecast, just a tornado watch in far west kentucky down through Tennessee and Arkansas.

The Day of the Storms

Here are the SPC numbers for our severe outbreak.
we are in a slight risk of severe storms.

Risk of tornadoes: 5%

Risk of hail > 3/4" in diamater: 15%
Risk of damaging winds >58 mph = 30%
Storm reports for yesterday: It looks like at least 3 tornadoes!
Remember these storms will be after midnight tonight.
The storms from last night are still severe and even have tornado warnings with it as of 7am!!!
These storms will not weaken tonight, and we should be prepared for an outbreak of damaging winds and maybe a few tornadoes. This will be after midnight, so set your noaa weather radio to wake you up in the night!
more updates after 2pm...

The Storm Makes It's Move

Tornadoes a Threat?

Some rain and storms, NOT severe, is expected overnight, though some gusty winds are possible in storms.

Tomorrow afternoon another nice one, with temps rising towards 70 again.

All looks good through Thursday afternoon, with highs in the middle to upper 70's Thursday, nearing 80 in some spots. It will be VERY windy as well.

The interesting part of the forecast is Thursday night and Friday.

Thursday night could be a potential for severe weather mainly in the form of damaging winds. Some tornadoes could be possible, along with large hail.

However, Marc Weinberg says that climatologically speaking, the storm system will slow down. That could mean that Friday could be the big deal and not as much Thursday for us! Friday the storms would not produce as many tornadoes, but still be severe with damaging winds.

By the way, accuweather dropped the threat of a "rival 1974" outbreak. It will still be a considerable outbreak, but probably west of us on Thursday.

SPC has a moderate risk of severe storms from Mississippi up through Paducah and Evansville with us in a slight risk on Thursday.

Also, a slight risk on Friday for us.

I don't feel confident on posting the SPC maps yet, because of storm uncertainty, but i will surely post them tomorrow!

Tornado Outbreak to Rival 1974!!!!!!!!

Strangely, you did read that correctly!

Let's set this up first...

  1. Nice day for tomorrow, highs 75.
  2. Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, some rain and storms.
  3. middle 60's on Wednesday afternoon.
  4. Possible severe weather on Thursday night, possibly Friday.
  5. Thunder over louisville in the 50's.

Dr. Henry from Accuweather.com says this about this weeks severe weather!

FIVE DAYS OF SEVERE WEATHER WITH THE MAIN EVENT LATE WEDNESDAY INTO FRIDAY. THE OUTBREAK COULD RIVAL THE 1974 TORNADO OUTBREAK.

Thursday into Friday - Storms moves up into the Great Lakes. Cold front/dry line combination moves into the Mississippi Valley. Supercell thunderstorms will develop with the potential for large-damaging tornadoes. Severe weather may go from southern Michigan to Arkansas. Severe weather will last through the night into Friday and move into the Appalachians and Northeast. We could see 100 tornadoes during the Thursday into Friday time period.

Definitely something to keep an eye on....

Here are the rain totals for our area in this last storm!

Big storms are coming for next week, maybe some severe storms! More rain will be no good for the river and the upcoming Thunder over Louisville!

However, the next 5-6 days will be very warm, with highs rising Sunday-Thursday in the upper 60's-upper 70's.

Thunder forecast is looking a little colder than usual...stay tuned...
