Expectations of the next 3 days...

The next 3 days are expected to have temps around or just above 90 over must of the area. Humidities will gradually increase to uncomfortable levels ahead of the next system. However, though it will stay sunny, the haze will cause unsafe air quality for sensitive groups for the next few days.

Saturday will begin our next chance of rain, but will it be from Fay? Here's the track of Fay's remnants...



Saturday-Monday's rain/storm chances will be from the cold front from the west that will stall over our area. 30% chances are in order for these 3 days. Temps will remain in the mid to upper 80s with the enhanced humidity.

Tuesday-Wednesdsay, we may have to worry about Fay, or Fay could stall the front over our area for even longer. I think a 30% rain/storm chance for these days as well, but this could all change depending on the movement of Fay.

In case you are still wondering (like most of us are), Fay is forecasted to drift off the Florida coast and then hit land again with winds of 60mph (NHC). There is still a slight chance that Fay could go into the Gulf of Mexico later on this weekend...

Olympics action continues...day 11 complete...

• Shawn Johnson won gold in the women's gymnastics balance beam final, and her teammate Nastia Liukin got silver for the USA.
• Johnathan Horton earned a silver in the men's high bar gymnastics.
• In the women's 100m hurdles: Dawn Harper of the USA won gold.
• USA men's basketball won their quarterfinal match 116-85 over Australia.
• USA men's baseball (5-2) qualifies for the semifinals. They will face Cuba in the semifinals.
• USA wins another sailing medal.

Tonight on NBC at 8pm: LIVE women's and men's BMX, as well as the women's beach volleyball final featuring May and Walsh. Track and field finals and the gymnastics gala will also be featured.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008: 6pm

Tropical Storm Fay hit Cape Romano, FL this morning with 65 mph winds. Here is the track of Fay. which is actually quite interesting. It will go through the Orlando area before heading out into the Atlantic. The NHC forecasts that it will become a minimal hurricane before hitting Jacksonville. It does not appear that Fay will bring us any rain in the near future.

Meanwhile, our weather should stay tranquil through the rest of the work week. The humidities will slowly increase, along with temperatures. Highs for the next 3 days will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

Saturday-Tuesday will hold a different story. Some moisture from the storm will increase our humidities, but with Fay so far to our south, the storm from the west will slide into our area. However, Fay's movement and the weather pattern will cause this system to stall. Temps will be in the upper 80s all of these days, but a daily 30% chance of showers/storm exists...

Jeffersonville's little league dreams are over...

They lost to Washington today 3-2 in 7 innings (one longer than a standard game). They are eliminated from the competition. However, they made our area proud by just making it to the highest stage in Little League Baseball.

In the Olympics...day 11 of competition is over...

• In the men's 400m hurdles, 3 Americans swept the medal stand. Angelo Taylor won gold, Kerren Clement silver, and Reshawn Jackson bronze.
• Nastia Liukin won silver on uneven bars, though the score between her and gold medal winner He Kexin of China was a tie. Kexin won the tiebreaker, giving Nastia only a silver medal.
• USA wins a sailing and wrestling gold medal.
• Misty May and Kerry Walsh (beach volleyball), USA, advance to the gold medal final tomorrow night at 10:45pm. That will be LIVE on NBC.
• USA women's water polo will play for the gold medal. They defeated Austrailia 9-8. They will play Netherlands on Thursday at 6:30am for the gold.
• USA women's basketball defeated South Korea 104-60 to stay perfect on the Olympics and advance to the semifinals.
• USA moves to 4-2 in baseball after beating Chinese Taipei 4-2. They have one game of pool play left.

Tonight on NBC, LIVE men's beach volleyball featuring Phil Dalhauser. Track and Field finals, 400m women, 100m hurdles women, and 1500m men. Also, men's gymnastics finals: parallel bars and uneven bars. Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson battle for gold in the balance beam competition. Also, LIVE BMX heats and quarterfinals. All of this begins at 8pm ET.

Monday, August 18, 2008: 5:30pm

Our great weather continues for just a couple more days...

Tuesday-Wednesday will be replays of today's weather, with highs in the upper 80s and comfortable humidities.

What happens next will be dependent on Tropical Storm Fay. Hurricane Warnings are in effect in parts of Florida, and winds are now at 60mph. This has to be one of the strangest tracks for a hurricane that I have seen once it comes inland. It seems to just aimlessly wander for 4 days, not effecting our weather.



This track is not very convincing at all to me, so our forecast will remain about the same. This storm is expected to hit Florida with 70mph winds tomorrow morning, and that is a sure thing on the track.

Now concerning our late week forecast...I think a 30% chance of rain for every day from Thursday-Saturday is fitting, as I still think that Fay will head our way. Highs over this period will be in the mid to upper 80s with increased humidities. Stay tuned for updates on this ever changing forecast.

Sunday-Monday's forecast are a blur. Depending on what Fay does, we could have a seemingly endless hot and dry spell continuing (if Fay stays to our south), or lingering showers and temps in the mid 80s. I would have to say the latter, but this storm is highly unpredictable.

Jeffersonville's little league team suffered a crushing loss yesterday to Louisiana, 9-0. However, if they can regroup and win tomorrow's game vs. Washington at 2pm on ESPN, and if Maryland loses in a high scoring game, it is possible that Jeffersonville could still move on to the semifinals...

The Olympics continue...

• Women's soccer wins over Japan 4-2. USA will play Brazil in the gold medal match, which is Thursday at 9am.
• USA men's water polo team qualifies for the quarterfinals by beating Germany 8-7.
• Men's basketball goes 5-0 by beating Germany by 49 and qualifying for the quarterfinals.
• Men's baseball won against China 9-1 to move their Olympics record to 3-2.
• USA wins a gold medal in equestrian team jumping.

Sunday, August 17, 2008: 2pm

Great weather pattern continues...

Through Wednesday, we will see sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Humidities will remain comfortable.

However, a low pressure system from the west combined with the remnants of Fay will move towards our area. However, there is a possibility that Fay could be to our east and the other storm from the west could be pushed away by Fay. For now, I will have a 30% chance of rain/storms Thursday-Saturday. Temps will remain in the upper 80s with slightly increased humidities.

Since neither of these systems will bring a cold front, next Sunday will begin a short period of hot and dry conditions. Humidities will be low, but highs will soar to near 90.

Tropical Storm Fay is now forecasted to have 80mph as it hits western Florida, according to the NHC. It currently has 50mph winds. The southern and southwestern parts of Florida, are under a Hurricane Watch. The Florida Keys are under a Hurricane Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning. This is expected to hit Florida early Tuesday morning.

Michael Phelps makes history...

• Michael Phelps broke the record for most gold medals in a single Olympic Games by winning the 4x100m relay last night.
• Also in the last night of swimming, Dara Torres, the 41 year old of the USA, won 2 silver medals in the 50m freestyle and the 4x100m relay.
• USA women's water polo team has advanced to the semifinals to play a team TBD.
• USA women's basketball team is 5-0 after beating New Zealand by 36 points.
• USA women's soccer team will play Japan at 9am tomorrow morning in the semifinals.

Cheer on the USA team and the Jeffersonville Little League team. Their game is today at 3:30pm on ABC.

Saturday, August 17, 2008: 3pm

Tropical Storm Fay to effect our weather next week...

The weather continues to be beautiful over the next 3 days. The sunny weather will continue with temps in the mid to upper 80s. The humidities will be very comfortable for August.

However, Tropical Storm Fay is expected to hit Florida sometime on Tuesday morning. It currently has 45 mph winds, but the NHC expects it to have 90mph winds (making it a hurricane) when it hits land Tuesday in Florida.



However, I must say that I slightly disagree with this map. The storm system over the south currently will most likely push the track of this storm further west than the NHC map shows. I would expect it to go more towards Tampa and possible the panhandle of Florida.

What does this mean for our weather? Wednesday, I think that Fay will be too close for the trough to our north, which was supposed to give us our midweek rain, to get to our area. So, the rain chance for Wednesday is very low, but clouds will thicken into the nighttime hours. Temps again will be in the mid to upper 80's, but a Fay approaches, humidities will increase slightly.

Thursday afternoon-Saturday morning will bring a chance of rain from T.S. Fay. The chance will be slight (30%) but we could get some welcome showers. During this period, temps will stay in the mid 80s. However, if the track of the NHC is correct, we will be hard pressed to get any rain out of this.

This means that instead of rain, temps would warm on the backside of the system beginning Friday, with temps reaching 90 by next weekend. Accuweather says no rain for us until the 28th...

This is a very complex forecast that I will update as more info becomes available...

The Jeffersonville Little League baseball team was expected to play last night, but the game was delayed to this morning. The Jeffersonville team lost to Maryland 3-2, though Maryland did not get 1 hit! They scored on a fielding error by Jeffersonville, and 2 wild pitches. Chandler Dale scored a run for Jeffersonville, and Austin Hines scored a solo HR.

The final out was recorded when Chandler Dale nearly score the tying run in the top of 6th (with 2 outs). The first baseman had to dive to touch 1st base before the runner got there. Otherwise, the game would have been tied.

Jeff/GRC will play tomorrow at 3:30pm against Louisiana on ABC HD, and Tuesday at 2pm against Washington on ESPN HD. They must win both of these games to advance.

More gold in the pool for Michael Phelps...

• Michael Phelps won his 7th gold in this Olympics, which is just one away from BREAKING the record of most gold in one Olympics. He beat Milarod Cavic of Serbia by 0.01 seconds.
• Tyson Gay of the USA did not qualify for the 100m track final. However, Usain Bolt bolted to a world record of 9.69 seconds in winning gold.
• The USA also won a gold medal in men's skeet shooting.
• In team sports, the US men's basketball team beat Spain 119-82, moving to 4-0 in the Olympics.
• The water polo team beat Croatia, who was previously undefeated. The US squad moved to 3-1 on the Olympics.
• The US baseball team beat Canada 5-4 to gain a 2-2 record so far.

Tonight, 41 year old Dara Torres races in the 50m freestyle and the 4x100m medley relay finals. Also, Michael Phelps tries to break the record in the 4x100m medley relay for the men. This is all LIVE on NBC at 10pm ET.

Friday, August 15, 2008: 3pm

Dry weather pattern continues...

The chances of rain over the next week have diminished, and until at least Sunday we will be dry with temps in the mid to upper 80's. Humidity values will still be comfortable as well.

Monday night through Wednesday morning will be the only periods where we could have a chance of rain. The chances of rain will be slim, in fact, at the most a 30% chance of rain. I would not be surprised to see no rain over this period as humidities remain fairly low for this time of year. Temperatures Monday-Wednesday will remain in the mid 80s.

Thursday and Friday will be the beginning of another hot streak in our area. It will be very dry, and temperatures will most likely reach the upper 80s to lower 90s over this period. Into the following weekend, temperatures could also easily top 90 degrees...

The 15 day forecast from Accuweather has only one rain chance over the next 15 days (Wednesday), with temperatures getting to 90 on Sunday and staying there for over a week...

The tropical disturbance that I mentioned yesterday is about to become a tropical depression. A lot of forecast predict it will strengthen into a major hurricane because of the extremely warm waters. Where will the storm go if it develops? Here are some models of where the storm will go, with each different colored line representing a different model...



The thing to remember is that this storm has NOT developed yet, so it is way too soon to make any outlandish predictions.

Day 7 of 16 of the Olympics is in the books in Beijing...

The USA had lots to celebrate after a day of no gold on Thursday. Lots of gold medals were earned by US athletes. Here's a recap of Friday's action...

• Nastia Liukin of the USA won the Women's Gymnastics Individual All Around gold medal, with Shawn Johnson of the USA winning silver.
• Michael Phelps won his 6th gold medal of these Olympics in the 200m IM. He is only 1 gold away from tying the all time record for most gold medals earned in one Olympics.
• Rebecca Soni of the USA won gold in the 200m breaststroke.
• USA's Ryan Lochte and Aaron Piersol went gold-silver (respectively) in the 200m backstroke.
• The US women's soccer team beat Canada 2-1 in their quarterfinal, and they will advance to the semifinals to play
• The US women's basketball team moves to 4-0 by beating Spain 93-55.
• The US women's water polo team moves to 2-0 with 1 ties by beating Russia 12-7.
• The US baseball team lost to Cuba 5-4 in 11 innings, moving their Olympics record to 1-2.
• Correction from yesterday: The US soccer team did NOT make it to the quarterfinals.

Tonight, Michael Phelps will swim for his 7th gold medal in the 100m butterfly, LIVE at 10pm on NBC. Three other swimming finals will take place as well...

Thursday, August 14, 2008: 4:45pm

More great weather on the way...

There is a chance of storms through early this evening, but these will weaken and end by sunset...

Tomorrow-Sunday will all have great weather for this time of year. The humidity will be a touch higher than the past week, but temps will stay in the low to mid 80s. I have taken the rain chances out because they are too low to even have mention.

However, Monday afternoon-Wednesday morning have an off and on chance of storms. Temperature conditions will stay more or less the same, but isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible during this time period.

Thursday will dry out, but a warming trend will begin. Temps will only be in the mid 80's Thursday, but after that, hot and dry weather is likely...

The National Hurricane Center believes that a tropical wave may develop into an organized system over the next 48 hours. This storm would move up the coast of Cuba and possibly towards Miami, FL, or bend northeast and head somewhere up the east coast...
