Monday, January 12th, 2008: 5pm

An exciting week of weather begins...

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for southern Indiana and north central Kentucky from 4am Tuesday-1pm Tuesday. The NWS predicts one inch or less with this clipper system.

With much talk about a snowstorm on Wednesday night-Thursday, I asked Marc Weinberg what he thought about the potential for a snowstorm. Here is what he said:

The critical component of these storms is that they are clipper systems. By definition, they do not have moisture to work with. There has been talk of "if it dives further south", etc. but you must remember these are clipper systems and they do not produce major (6-8") snowfall accumulations. Those that are saying if it dives further south are losing touch with the meteorology behind these storms. The only way you get major snows in Kentucky and Southern Indiana is if you get an arctic front, followed immediately by a storm coming out of the SW United States. This is far, far from that scenario. Remember, the science should dictate your forecast, not what a computer model says.

With this said, it does not appear that we will have a snowstorm on Wednesday night-Thursday morning. However, I do think that we could see 1-2 inches for this clipper system. I am agreeing with the NWS with tonight's storm...1" or less.

There could also be some lingering snow showers all day long Tuesday, which could bring more minor accumulations.

Very cold weather will begin to move in on Thursday. Lows Friday morning will be near 0, and will go below zero if we have snow cover. There has been talk that a storm could come through our area Friday night, but I think this storm is trending too far north. However, I do believe that there is a chance for snow on Sunday.
